Accountability & Transparency

Under TP’s leadership, the Wayne County Sheriff's Department will prioritize accountability and compliance with the law. This includes:

Brady List Compliance: The Michigan Brady List tracks police misconduct, use-of-force reports, public complaints, and more. Currently, the Wayne County Sheriff's Office is not compliant with the Brady List or related federal transparency laws like:

  • SCOTUS Brady Doctrine (1963)
  • US Freedom of Information Act (1967)
  • Michigan FOIA Laws
  • Open Government Act (2007)
  • DOJ Open Government Directives (2009)

TP will ensure full compliance with these laws, holding our department to the highest standards of transparency.

Key Initiatives:

Protecting County & International Borders

As Sheriff, TP will protect Wayne County’s borders and our international border with Canada. TP will demand federal funding for this protection, ensuring we have the resources to safeguard our county.

Upholding the Constitution & Protecting Your Rights

The Constitution is our guiding principle—not just when dealing with corrupt or careless officers, but every day. TP will establish a team, led by a former Police Commissioner, to investigate complaints from the past 4 years to ensure no misconduct was overlooked.

Fighting the Opioid & Fentanyl Epidemic

The opioid and fentanyl crisis is ravaging our neighborhoods. As Sheriff, TP will develop drug treatment programs for inmates, with a focus on rehabilitation. Successful completion of these programs will lead to a review of their correctional status, offering potential early release or transition to community corrections.

Deputy Appreciation & Safety

TP values the dedication of Wayne County’s deputies. Under TP’s administration, all deputies who live in Wayne County will receive a paycheck bonus as an incentive to live and serve in their community. This ensures faster response times in emergencies and strengthens ties between deputies and residents.

No More Forced Overtime!

End Mandatory Overtime

The current administration’s reliance on mandatory overtime has created a serious problem within the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies are often forced to work extra shifts, which leads to widespread burnout, low morale, and ultimately, staffing shortages. This environment not only affects the wellbeing of the deputies but also compromises public safety, as exhausted officers are more prone to mistakes, putting both themselves and the community at risk.

This mismanagement has already resulted in lawsuits against the department, as overworked deputies are left with little recourse. The current approach is unsustainable and unfair, forcing deputies to choose between their personal lives and the job they love.

Under TP’s leadership, we will end mandatory overtime. Instead, TP will implement a voluntary overtime call system that prioritizes the health and safety of our deputies while ensuring the department remains fully staffed. This new system will notify deputies of available shifts, and those interested can volunteer to take on extra hours on a first-come, first-served basis. Deputies will no longer be compelled to work beyond their scheduled hours, allowing them to maintain a better work-life balance.

By introducing this system, TP will create a healthier, more motivated workforce, reduce staff turnover, and avoid the legal battles and negative outcomes that come with overburdening our officers. Deputies will have greater control over their schedules, leading to higher job satisfaction and better overall performance, ensuring Wayne County residents receive the best service possible.

School Safety: More Liaison Officers

Our children’s safety is a top priority, and under TP’s leadership, this will be treated with the urgency and attention it deserves. Ensuring the safety of our schools means creating an environment where students, teachers, and staff can focus on education and personal development, free from fear or danger.

One of the key initiatives TP will implement is ensuring that every school in Wayne County has access to a dedicated School Liaison Officer (SLO). These officers will serve as the bridge between law enforcement and the school community, providing not only a visible security presence but also fostering trust and open communication between students, educators, and law enforcement.

School Liaison Officers will be trained in de-escalation tactics, mental health awareness, and youth engagement, ensuring they are equipped to handle situations with care and understanding. Their presence will deter potential threats, whether from external sources or internal conflicts, and they will work proactively to ensure the safety of all.

But the role of an SLO goes beyond just security. These officers will also act as mentors and advocates for students. By being embedded in the school environment, SLOs can build positive relationships with students, helping to prevent issues before they escalate and providing a trusted resource for students to turn to in times of need.

Furthermore, SLOs will collaborate closely with school administrators and counselors to address not only physical safety concerns but also mental health issues and bullying, which can have long-term effects on students' well-being. By working together, we can create a more holistic approach to school safety—one that protects both the bodies and minds of our children.

In schools that already have security personnel, TP will ensure that their training and resources are continuously updated to address new challenges. For those schools that lack SLOs, TP’s administration will work swiftly to deploy officers, prioritizing areas of greatest need.

TP’s plan also includes providing ongoing community engagement and parental involvement initiatives, creating a well-rounded approach to school safety. Parents and community members will be given opportunities to participate in safety programs, keeping them informed and involved in maintaining a secure environment for their children.

By making this investment in our schools, TP is sending a clear message: Our children’s safety comes first, and every student, regardless of where they attend school, deserves a secure, supportive, and protected learning environment.
